Meriem Alaoui
(Moroccan Student Grantee, 2004-06), MBA, University of Miami, was one of 20 students selected nation-wide for a Citigroup com-petition in November 2006, organized by National Society of Hispanic MBAs. Alaoui currently works for Zade Pack as a production manager.
Amine Bensaid (Post-Doctoral Researcher, 2000-01) was named Vice President for Academic Affairs at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane.
Lara Birkes
(U.S. Student Grantee, 2005-06) gave a presentation on the Implementation of the Morocco-U.S. Free Trade Agreement before the Business Council for International Understanding in Washington, D.C, followed by a round table discussion sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Elizabeth Buckner
(current U.S. Student) published the paper “Language Drama in Morocco: Another Perspective on the Problems and Prospects of Teaching Tamazight” in The Journal of North African Studies. Volume 11, Number 4, December 2006.
Ahmed Chami
(Moroccan Student Grantee, 1987-89) was awarded the Dale Carnegie Leadership Award. Chami, who heads the Moroccan group Saham, was given the award for his excellent human resource management. He was previously Regional Director of Microsoft North Africa, and then South East Asia.
Shana Cohen
, (U.S. Student Grantee, 1995-96) co-authored a book-length study with Larabi Jaidi, under the title: Morocco: Globalization and Its Consequences (Mapping the Global Spaces). Routledge, 2006.
Mina Mghari (Joint Supervision Grantee, 1998-99) was awarded the 2006 Prix du Maroc award in the category of Humanities for her book La Ville de Mogador: Etude Historique Archéologique (based on her doctoral research supported by a MACECE grant). The author was recognized by His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid at the 13th International Book Fair in Casablanca.
Fatima Sadiqi (Post-Doctoral Researcher, 1999-2000) was nominated by U.N. General Secretary Kofi Annan as a member of the Committee for Development Policy. She is one of 24 experts worldwide named to the committee. Dr. Sadiqi is currently a Visiting Professor at Harvard University. She also published the ground-breaking paper “The Impact of Islamization on Moroccan Feminisms” in Signs Journal of Women in Culture and Society. Volume 32, Number 1, Autumn 2006
